VR in the sky?
Air travel, while great, comes with screaming babies, chatty neighbors, and tight spaces, but what if you could add a little metaverse flair to the whole trip?
That is exactly what the aerospace company Airbus is trying to do, according to an official press release from the company. They partnered with crowdsourcing technology platform HeroX to come up with imaginative ways the metaverse could enhance the air travel experience. Yes, that probably means VR, or at least some form of augmented reality, as you fly high in the real sky.
“Metaverse is an unknown world, and we would like to understand how it can improve our passenger experience,” said Marc Fischer, SVP Cabin and Cargo Engineering, Airbus, in a press release.
This is obviously only in its infancy. Neither company figured out what spreading the dust of the metaverse would actually look like in the air travel experience. That’s why they also created a contest to look for actionable ideas.
The Metaverse and the Future of Flight contest will award $30,000 to entrants with the best suggestions. The scholarship will be divided into five ways, if there are multiple winning ideas, and the competition is open to anyone over the age of 18 living anywhere in the world.
The contest launches today, so please enter your ideas so we can add even more magic to the gaming experience. *checks notes* travel through the sky sitting on a giant metal bird.
