When are the next Star Wars movies in theaters? Well, we know that there are three Star Wars release dates on the release schedule. The first was supposed to be the Patty Jenkins movie, but it has since been delayed (more details below). These are the release dates announced by Disney:

  • December 22, 2023
  • December 19, 2025
  • December 17, 2027

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron

Patty Jenkins

In a video to coincide with the announcement, Jenkins discussed his history with the Air Force and his desire to create the “greatest fighter pilot movie of all time.”

“The story will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives on a high-speed thrill ride, moving the saga into the future age of the galaxy,” the official synopses read. .

The name of the film will also be familiar to many: it is the title of an iconic video game series centered around Rebel pilots fighting against the Empire. However, it has been confirmed that the new movie will take place after the main saga, pushing the Star Wars universe into the future.

The location scouting took place in Scotland on a 2019 Star Wars movie, and Jenkins has previously said that the rendering of the Rogue Squadron story was nearly complete. “We’re basically finishing processing, which is pretty big,” he said in January 2021. my process So yeah, we’ve been working on it for a while. I’m very well. I’m super excited about this.

Jenkins wasn’t the first person to direct the next Star Wars movie. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss were originally slated to direct a trilogy, but were reportedly too busy making shows for Netflix after signing a nine-figure deal with the streaming service in 2019.

There were rumors that the upcoming film would be set a few hundred years before the first prequel film, during the time of the Old Republic. The obvious inspiration here could be the Knights of the Old Republic video game series, and while Rogue Squadron won’t tell that story, perhaps another one of the filmmakers’ upcoming movies will.

Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie

Taika Waititi

“I tend to go down that little alley of sincerity in my movies,” Waititi said of the film. “I like to trick the viewer into thinking ‘ha, that’s it’ and then saying, ‘Damn, you made me feel something!'”

Taika will have a lot to do in the meantime. The director is currently working on Thor: Love and Thunder, due for release in 2022, and an animated series Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Netflix.

Rian Johnson’s New Star Wars Movie Trilogy

Rian Johnson, who will direct an upcoming Star Wars movie, on the set of The Last Jedi

Release date: A stranger

The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson must have impressed someone at Lucasfilm and Disney because, just before the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, they announced that the filmmaker would be directing a new trilogy of Star Wars movies with “new characters.” from Just Around the Corner.” of the galaxy that the Star Wars lore has never explored before. And even though The Last Jedi was, shall we say, divisive among the Star Wars faithful, Johnson is still on board, the filmmaker once taking for Twitter to address rumors that the project had been scrapped and various reports in 2021 that the project is still ongoing.

We don’t know much about this new Star Wars film trilogy, but Johnson will write and direct the first entry. He’s already talked about the pitch that got him the job and, as a warning, there’s not much: “A story told in three movies. Go to new places, meet new people, make up a new story to tell at the Star.” War Universe. The sky’s the limit…” Considering how new The Last Jedi is, we couldn’t be more excited to see Johnson unleash the Star Wars galaxy. Before that though, you’ll get to enjoy the Knives Out trilogy. From Johnson: Yes, there are two more to come, on Netflix.

Kevin Feige’s Star Wars movie

Kevin Feige, who will produce an upcoming Star Wars movie

Feige, meanwhile, has apparently approached a “major actor” for a role in the next unnamed Star Wars movie, according to a source close to The Hollywood Reporter. Loki head writer Michael Waldron is writing the project, and the movie could even lead to a bigger job at Lucasfilm for the producer.

Little is known about the film and Feige’s role in LucasFilm, but more reports are expected to emerge in the coming years. Could he pick up where Benioff and Weiss left off? We wouldn’t pass up Lucasfilm to hand Feige the reins of a post-Rise of Skywalker trilogy.

Other Star Wars Story movies?

Could a sequel to Solo be an upcoming Star Wars movie?

Solo’s conclusion was clearly setting up a sequel. There were also multiple reports of a new standalone Star Wars film centering on Boba Fett, first with Fantastic Four director Josh Trank, and after that (according to reports that have never been confirmed by Disney), Logan’s James Mangold. However, this morphed into The Mandalorian and, later, Fett’s own spin-off show.

The other favorite for an independent movie was Obi-Wan Kenobi. In fact, there were several (equally unconfirmed) reports (including one that apparently leaked the synopsis) that Disney/Lucasfilm had an Obi-Wan project in the works with Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry. Like the Boba Fett solo movie, the Obi-Wan spin-off also morphed into something new: a Disney Plus spin-off series that tells the story of the wise Jedi Knight between Episodes III and IV. But before that, a little more about The Mandalorian…

“Best of all, it brought me back to Hayden,” added McGregor. “It will be amazing to bring these characters together again, in a very unexpected way. Having another hit against each other could be very satisfying for everyone. We hope you enjoy it as much as we will enjoy making it.

Disney has since confirmed that the series is happening and provided a synopsis. “The Acolyte is a mystery thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of dark secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era,” he said. The High Republic era is set roughly 350 years before The Phantom Menace, and this will be the first time that time period has been explored on screen.
