This article explains how to change all the slides in a Google Slides presentation from landscape (horizontal) mode to portrait (vertical) mode. It also includes information about editing slides in landscape mode.

How to Change Slide Orientation in Google Slides to Portrait

After using Google Slides to give a presentation, it only takes a few moments to go back and change the orientation of a slide from landscape to portrait. This process changes the orientation of all the slides in the presentation; there is no method to do this for individual slides. Here’s what you need to do to turn things around.

Go to Google Docs in a web browser. You can’t do this in an Android or iOS app.

Click on the hamburger icon.

Click on Slideshow.

Another way to change the slide size in Google Slides is to enter a number here. We recommend 7.5 inches by 10 inches if you want to create a portrait image that will look good when printed.

Click on Apply.

The slide has now moved to vertical perspective correctly.

How to change slide orientation to landscape

Your presentation is set to Portrait mode and now you regret everything? Don’t worry. It’s just as easy to reposition your slides in a landscape perspective. This is what you should do.

Go to Google Docs.

Click on the hamburger icon.

When to use different perspectives in your presentation

You may be wondering why you have to switch between portrait and landscape perspectives with your Google Slides presentations. We’ve looked at a few key reasons why it might be worth doing.

  • newsletters. If you’re creating a newsletter in Google Slides, a portrait view is usually much better for reading than a landscape view. It looks better on everyone and is much easier to hold if you print it.
  • different posters. Depending on what you’re designing, different posters may look better in vertical or horizontal perspective. It’s helpful to be able to see what works best for your design.
  • infographics. Likewise, if you’re designing an infographic for your presentation, charts will look better in landscape mode, while results with more text will look better in portrait mode.
