one. First, you will want find a place to do it with lots of light. It’s also a good idea to have a tray on hand to store parts and a small bag to store spare links.

two. Now, hold the watch in place on your wrist you want to put it on Gather the excess ties at the bottom and count how many links you could bear to remove. Remember you’ll need some breathing room on your wrist, so if you’re not sure if an extra link is too tight, be careful.

3. Check this number before continuing to the next step.

4. Divide this number by two so you know how many links you will remove from each side of the clasp. You will want to keep this even though the clasp is in the center.

5. If you use a watch tool kit, like the EZTool Watch Repair Kit ($19.87, Amazon), then it probably comes with a watch stand. Take a look at the bottom of your metal bracelet. You should notice some small arrows on the links closest to the close. Place the watch on the stand with these arrows pointing down. These basically represent the direction in which you should remove the pins. If you don’t see any arrows, your pins may be screw heads, in which case go to step 7.

6. Then you want insert the pin pusher into the pin for the relevant number of links you want to remove; remember that you want to remove half of each side of the zipper. Then, using the included hammer (a regular hammer can also work if you’re careful), lightly press the pusher until you can’t push it anymore in the link Rotate your watch and pull the pin loose on the other side using finger tweezers. Be prepared for links to come loose and watch out for loose ferrules as well. Don’t lose pins and ferrules – keep them handy on a tray.

7. Depending on your watch, pins can have a screw head, in which case you will need to use a 1mm screwdriver to remove them. Simply turn the pins counterclockwise and use pliers to pull them out.

8. You will want repeat this method on both immediate sides the clasp itself, as well as the number of links you wish to remove from the other side of the bracelet.

9. Get rid of excess links in a bag. You are now ready to put the clasp back in place. Rotate the clock on its clock stand so the arrows now point up.

ten. now you must connect the links to the closing reinserting the pins in the direction you removed them. Place the pins into the holes after aligning the lock and all ferrules, and tap them gently with the hammer until they click back into place. You can also screw them back in place if you used a screwdriver to remove them.

And voila, your watch strap should now fit perfectly. Remember to save spare links and pins in case you need them in the future.
