Lilly Singh agrees that The Bad Guys’ Mr. Wolf is kinda hot

With villains in theaters, we can finally say what many netizens think: Yes, Mr. Wolf is hot. The charismatic thief leads a gang of criminals made up of dangerous animals, and there’s something about his arrogance that matches other animated dog characters like zootopiais Nick Wilde and Robin Hood, the leader of the Disney outlaws. Fortunately, comedian and YouTuber Lilly Singh agrees with that.

“Mr. Wolf it is kind of a father, I see him now,” Singh told Polygon. “I never thought about it. But would I slip into the DMs? Do I think I would? I think I would. So I think Mr. Wolf is pretty hot. I think animals have the style of someone who I think is stealing. So yeah, I see all of that. I’m not mad at the internet for this.

And as someone intimately familiar with the inner workings of internet fandom, Singh’s sentiments about ever-changing tastes online have years of experience to back them up. Singh, who voices journalist Tiffany Fluffit in villains (one of the few humans in the mostly animal cast), debuted on YouTube in 2010, creating parody skits and comedy skits. In 2016, he was ranked third on Forbes’ list of highest-paid YouTubers. His career took off from there and he headlined an NBC talk show from 2019 to 2021.

villains It’s not Singh’s first film or voiceover role; previously voiced little unicorns in Ice Age: Collision Course and a deer in Sky Cinema Riverdance: The Animated Adventure. But you’re still getting used to the stark contrast between creating content for the Internet and voiceover for a movie. On the one hand, she says it’s fun to see all the separate pieces she does for a project brought together in someone else’s finished work, especially when she’s so used to recording alone. But she is still struggling with the wait to see the finished product.

“I shot a massive project that took three days to shoot and now my editors are editing it, and it’s coming out in the next two days,” he explains. “I can do something in a day or a week, then I get instant feedback. I did the voiceover for this movie. [The Bad Guys] for three years, and it’s coming out now. So I think the patience of having to learn this new process has been very difficult for me, but it’s a nice skill to have.

The YouTube space has changed dramatically in the 12 years since Singh posted his first video. These days, creators and influencers are everywhere, saturating social media. It’s easy to forget that once upon a time, just over a decade ago, making a living from YouTube was a completely new idea. Singh is delighted to see how much YouTube has transformed.

“I think now it’s much more undeniable,” he said. “When I started in 2010, many people, including my friends and family, said: What are you doing? Are you making money? How can you? How can you make a living? Even I questioned all of that.

“I think now the digital space is something whose power you can’t deny, you can’t deny its longevity, you can’t deny its influence. I think people now really take this space seriously and know it’s a business. When I started out of course I was someone creating and expressing myself but people didn’t really think of it as a business now you can certainly say that people who create online are business owners and they inevitably have businesses so that makes I’m very happy

As for her voice-over career, Singh is delighted to be a part of villains, which he says is unlike anything he’s seen before in animation: an action-packed heist that could disrupt the talking animal canon. And if he ever gets the chance to voice an animal of his choosing in the future, Singh has some ideas.

“I feel like an animal in tune with [being] misunderstood it would be a lion,” he laughs. “I also think he would be a cool lion. It is a completely selfish response. I just want to be a lion.
