Moon Knight Episode 4 features the revelation that Marc Spector had something to do with Layla’s father’s death. Spoilers ahead.
In Episode 4, we learn that Layla’s father, Abdullah El-Faouly, was an archaeologist as she fondly reflects on how proud he would be to see her in the tomb of Alexander the Great. However, during a conversation with Arthur Harrow, she plants the seed that Marc may have been involved in her death at the hands of mercenaries.
Confronting her husband about it, Layla directly asks Marc if he killed her father. He denies her involvement, explaining, “I was there. My partner got greedy and executed everyone at the dig site. I tried to save your father, but I couldn’t save him. Marc also reveals that his mysterious partner also shot him and he should have died that night.
Harrow interrupted them with his men before we could find out who exactly his partner was, but could a fan theory have solved it?

A new theory suggests that Marc’s partner could have been another of his personalities, Jake Lockley. The character, who has yet to appear in the series, is a taxi driver known for his violent tendencies.
Fans believe that her appearance has already been teased. In episode 3, it was hinted that there was an alternate personality after Steven Grant and Marc had no recollection of killing Harrow’s men. Also, in Episode 4, it looked like someone was trying to get out of the sarcophagus at Putnam Mental Hospital.
If Lockley is about to be featured in the series, some believe he may be the cause of El-Faouly’s death. Speculating on this, one Reddit user wrote: “I think Jake’s personality could have been the ‘partner’ Marc alluded to who executed Layla’s father and his crew. We already know that the third personality is extremely violent from the brief Scene from Episode 3. .”
They continued: “When Marc says that his partner shot him too, could he mean that Jake shot himself in the back in an attempt to get rid of Marc or vice versa?” Another fan agreed, admitting that would explain why Marc was so keen to avoid opening the other sarcophagus.
However, if the show goes this route, it will move away from the same story in the comics. In Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz’s run, this was another character entirely behind Layla’s father’s murder.
Who kills Layla’s father in the Moon Knight comics?
Apparently, Layla is a representative of the comic book character Marlene, and the killer identity of Marlene’s father in the comics is a character named Raoul Bushman. Bushman is one of the main villains in the Moon Knight series and is a brutal mercenary that Marc works for. Marlene is the daughter of Dr. Peter Alraune. She was an archaeologist working at a dig site that Bushman and his men decided to rob in hopes of finding gold.
Marc was working for the crime lord on the mission at the time and saved Bushman’s life after Alraune tried to stab him. In retaliation, Bushman brutally murdered Alraune before Marc’s eyes.
It’s unclear if Bushman will be featured in the Disney Plus series after head writer and executive producer Jeremy Slater spoke out about his absence. He was asked by a fan on Twitter about the decision to make Arthur Harrow’s character the main villain of the Disney Plus show.
justifying this, he said: “Because his only recognizable villain was Bushman, who felt too close to Erik Killmonger from Black Panther. So we decided to invent a villain instead. Ethan Hawke, in particular, was instrumental in creating Harrow.
