We want to make easy crafts for kids, and these agamographs are just that, a super easy craft for kids to make! While you can definitely have the kids draw their own, using and coloring a stencil can be just as fun (and a perfect class project if you’re short on time).

This Mother’s Day agamograph is an ideal gift for all moms. They can easily replace traditional Mother’s Day cards and are so much more fun.

The finished agamograph fits on almost any shelf or can be displayed at any time.

For those who are new to agamographs, we can only say that they will be a lot of fun to make!

The magic of the agamograph is that when you look at it from a certain angle, you will see one image (a legend of “MOM” surrounded by hearts), but when you look at it from another angle, you will see a totally different image (two hands holding a heart).

Beginners can print version two, color the entire images first, cut out the agamograph pieces, and glue them alternately to create the craft. You can also use “version 2” as a reference when coloring “version 1”.

How to make an agamograph for mother’s day

What do you need:

  • our printable template (you will find it at the end of this tutorial)
  • heavier print paper (plain will work fine, but heavier is a better option)
  • coloring supplies
  • scissors
  • scoring tool – optional but very useful (skewers work great)
  • glue

Follow these step-by-step instructions

Print the template; you will find it at the end of this tutorial.

Color the template with bright colors to highlight the “MOM” legend and the hearts.

When coloring, you can use the “version 2” model as a reference because it shows both images as a whole.

Use your scissors and cut the agamograph.

To score across alternate frames, use the scoring tool (mark along the lines separating the frames).

We use a wooden skewer because it’s so handy, but there are plenty of other things you can use (an actual paper scoring tool is included).

Fold along all the lines.

Fold the first alternate image using an accordion folding technique. Turn the entire page upside down and start folding.

Press firmly after each fold (you can even run a wooden stick over the fold to get everything clean).

Continue to the last fold and slowly unfold your agamograph.

Your beautiful Mother’s Day agamograph is complete and ready to bring joy.Mother's Day agamograph template for kids
