These paper Christmas decorations are my all-time favorite! I went a little crazy when I was a kid, because we used to make our Christmas decorations in class, with paper snowflakes.

When I realized, the thinner the slit in the paper, the larger and more intricate the decorations I had made, each one trying to be bigger and more glamorous than the last. So simple and so pretty.

We made them out of white paper when I was a kid, but I also think the color versions are amazing.

Especially a green one because you can even decorate it with a star on top and with paper decorations (or pompoms) as Christmas balls. A great Christmas activity for the class party.

Do you want to learn how to make them? Let’s move on to crafts.

How to make simple paper Christmas decorations

What do you need:

  • square paper (this can be regular square cut printing paper or you can just use origami paper)
  • pair of scissors
  • hanging rope

Extra colored paper if you are going to further decorate your decorations.

Or follow the step by step instructions

If you’re working with plain paper, cut it into a square.

Fold the paper diagonally to form a triangle.

Now fold the triangle in half (you will get another triangle).

It’s time to cut.

Start at the top and make sure the cut is parallel to the bottom side of the triangle. Cut near the top, but don’t cut all the way through.

Go around and cut to the other side, to the other side, again not all the way.

Turn again and repeat the exercise (and again and again) until you reach the bottom.

Slowly unfold the paper (it might catch a bit here and there).

Stand in the middle – thread a thread to hang and hang.

If you want to make it a Christmas tree decoration, add decorations: a paper star on top, pom-poms, or hanging paper decorations.

Your super simple paper Christmas decorations are complete and ready to hang.
